Andhra Pradesh woman found dead in the US

Another Andhra family has been plunged into grief by the news of the unnatural death of their daughter in the United States. A pall of gloom descended on the home of 25-year-old P Sushma on hearing about the news of her suicide.

Sushma's parents, who reside in Himayatnagar area of Hyderabad received the news on Friday evening that Sushma had hung herself on Friday at her home in California.

Her family members however rejected the theory of her suicide and alleged that her husband P Suresh, a software engineer murdered her. They alleged that all was not well between the husband and wife and Suresh was harassing Sushma.

Sushma's father V Kanaka Rao was too shocked to say any thing while her mother fainted on hearing about the tragic news.

The families of both Sushma and Suresh hail from Karimnagar district. While Suresh hails from Sultanabad, Sushma's family comes from Korutla in the same district.

Andhra Pradesh: 8 labourers buried alive

Eight labourers, including seven women, were buried alive when a 50-feet high mound of soil caved in on them in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
According to the police, the mishap occurred on the outskirts of Thakkalapalli village in Kathlapur mandal, where 39 labourers were removing the soil from the flood flow canal under the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.

The labourers, who were using heavy equipment, had no time to escape when a 50-feet-high mound of soil caved in. Villagers rushed to the spot to pull out the trapped labourers from under the debris. Revenue and police personnel also joined in the rescue operations.

Eight bodies were found after three-hour operation. Five injured persons were shifted to the government hospital at Korutla. The relatives of the deceased alleged that adequate safety measures had not been taken at the site.

Endowments Minister J Ratnakar Rao, District Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania and Superintendent of Police Y Gangadhar rushed to the accident spot and consoled bereaved family members. The collector ordered an inquiry into the accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh each to the families of the deceased.
